When two young men go missing, Inspector Alan Banks must race to determine how the bloodstains in the abandoned airport hanger were found so far away from the scorched van.  The mystery deepens when a subsequent hailstorm sends a truck sliding off an icy road, killing the driver and revealing the body of a victim who was dead long before the fatal accident.
